Cyrus ordered that the people provide the Jews with silver and gold and goods for their temple (Ezra 1:4, 6). Those whose hearts God had moved (1:5) quickly prepared to go back to Jerusalem. The returning Jews (numbering about 50,000) were led by Sheshbazzar (Ezra 1:8, 11; 5:14, 16). In Ezra 2:2; 3:2 and other passages the leader is named Zerubbabel.
